Mediated: The Effects of Media on Human Consciousness

Are you “mediated”? You probably are, but you just don't know it yet. That's fine, because the erudite and down-to-earth cultural critic, Thomas de Zengotita, has just written a highly acclaimed book on this very subject—how the media has created a mass culture of narcissists—and it will be hard to look at your life the same way after you've heard what he has to say. In this Voices event, de Zengotita will draw from his new book, Mediated, to provide a dazzling overview of how various forms of media have shaped the human psyche over time, focusing on the ultra-sophisticated multimedia culture of the present day.
Norman Mailer on de Zengotita's new book:

Mediated has the same liveliness and intense intellectuality as Marshall McLuhan's Understanding Media, which is a way of saying there are anywhere from three to ten stimulating ideas on every page. As McLuhan presented us with the realization that modernism was coming to an end, so de Zengotita has a great deal to say about the saturation of post-modernism in our existence today. Let me offer my salute to Thomas de Zengotita.
